Founded in 1993 and headquartered in San Salvador, EI Salvador, Central American Integration System aims to promote independence, peace and political development within the region and to bring about economic integration as well. Central American Integration System is the institutional framework of Regional Integration in Central America. Belize joined as a member state later on as well. The IGO, with its organs ensures that there is effective compliance and execution of the objectives of this integration. Central American Integration System ensures respect for human rights as the basic principle of the organization along with promotion of harmonious relations between members and the rest of the world. The organization places importance on reciprocity and equity.
